We made the Tidal Swirl Set, inspired by the mesmerising patterns found in moving water; the way tidal currents create long, sinuous lines across the surface of the sea, the way water spirals around rocks and through channels with a kind of effortless, unhurried elegance. The British coastline, with its extraordinary variety of tidal landscapes, from the dramatic swirling waters of the Corryvreckan whirlpool off the Scottish coast to the long, languid tidal flats of the Wash; provided a rich and endlessly fascinating visual source for the swirling surface patterns that define this collection.
Each piece in the set was crafted to reflect a different aspect of that tidal world. The two teal glass vessels; one small and rounded, one tall and boldly shouldered; carry deep, sinuous swirl patterns that seem to move and shift as the light changes around them, evoking the constant, restless motion of water. The small teal candle holder completes the collection, its flickering flame animating the swirl patterns of the surrounding vessels and filling the display with a gentle, living warmth.
