The Golden Bloom Duo was inspired by the irresistible, life-affirming energy of late summer in the British countryside. There is a particular quality to late British summer light; rich, amber-toned, and somehow both bright and gentle. At the same time this piece captures extraordinary accuracy and a peaceful feeling.
The two vessels at the heart of the composition could not be more different in form, and yet they belong together completely. The taller of the two is a smooth, elongated cylinder in soft natural stone. Beside it, a rounder, more compact ribbed vessel in warm cream sits lower and wider, filled with a generous, exuberant burst of large sunflowers in the saturated, joyful yellow-orange imaginable. Between the two vessels, a small, round orange decorative fruit sits on the shelf surface like a full stop.
